Course on PBPK modelling (October 2024)

On the 25th of October 2024, the Belgian Society for Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (BelTox) is co-organising a course on physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modelling (PBPK) in collaboration with the research group of Prof. Pieter Annaert at the KU Leuven. The course will take place at the Gasthuisberg Campus of the KU Leuven. It will consist of a morning session with three lectures covering the basic concepts of PBPK modelling as well as the regulatory aspects and the industry perspective.  In the afternoon, a hands-on training with PK-SYM will be organised.

BelTox Annual Meeting 2024 (December 2024)

This year, the BelTox annual meeting will be organised in collaboration with the Belgian Environmental Mutagen Society (BEMS). The event will take place at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University on the 5th of December 2024 and will be themed ‘Novel non-clinical strategies for the development of human medicinal products’.

The morning session will start with an introduction on non-clinical testing strategies for different types of drug modalities by Sonja Beken (Federal Agency for Medicinal and Health Products, FAMHP). Her presentation will be followed by presentations on novel non-clinical safety approaches for small molecule drugs (Jean-Pierre Valentin, UCB), risk-based approach for non-clinical evaluation of advanced therapeutic medicinal products (Sofie Peirs, FAMHP) and new ICH guideline on oligonucleotide safety testing (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries, EFPIA). The morning session will end with the general assembly of BelTox with the president Steven Van Cruchten (UAntwerpen).

The program of the afternoon comprises, amongst other topics, presentations on genetic toxicology testing (Caressa Van Dongen, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine), Genomic Safety Considerations and Challenges in Genetically Modified Cell Therapies (Parimal Pande, Janssen Pharmaceuticals), platform approaches for mRNA vaccines and the Young Scientist Competition. The conference will be closed by the award ceremony and a word of the Presidents of BelTox (Steven Van Gruchten) and BEMS (Birgit Mertens, Sciensano).

The Young Scientist Competition will also award the two best oral presentations and two best posters of PhD students. Are you a PhD student? Would you like to present your work during the annual meeting?

  • Prepare your abstract describing your work in the field of toxicology and/or ecotoxicology using the following template,
  • Send your abstract to admin@beltox.be before the 1st of November 2024,
  • Don’t forget to indicate your preference for an oral or a poster presentation,
  • Your abstract will be reviewed by a jury who will select the four best abstracts for an oral presentation. The other abstracts will be included in the poster competition.
