Submit Your Application for the Global 3Rs Awards
The Global 3Rs Awards program recognizes every year, researchers who have made significant innovative contributions to advance progress in the field of 3Rs (i.e. Replacement, Reduction, Refinement). Up to four Awards, in the amount of 5,000 USD each, will be granted and distributed across four regions of the globe (North America, Europe, Pacific Rim, and the Rest of the World). The Award is organized by the IQ Consortium and AAALAC International.
Any researcher (nominated author, principal investigator, or research team leader) in academia or industry working in biology can apply for this award, with the exception of human health professionals who are legally authorized to practice. The research can be performed in any area of biology including basic science, discovery, development, teaching, testing, manufacturing for new medicines, vaccines, medical devices, or healthcare products for humans and animals.
Candidates are allowed to self-nominate and their nominations must be based on a primary research paper that was published in a peer-reviewed journal in the last three years. The paper may include modifications to existing research techniques or innovative approaches including, but not limited to: improvements to whole-animal models, tissue-based models (e.g. cell lines and tissue cultures), molecular techniques (e.g. proteomics), analytic and computational models, study design or technique refinements, and translational medicine applications. Meta-analyses that develop fundamental new insights into the 3Rs are also eligible if the used methodology is properly described. Papers that were previously submitted to the Global 3Rs Award program are not eligible anymore. You should also carefully consider whether a conflict of interest could occur before submitting your application. If you are concerned about a potential conflict of interest, you may contact the AAALAC international CEO via firstname.lastname@example.org.
The award will be presented to the nominated author in October 2021. In case there is joint first authorship, the award will be presented to one of them. If you would like to apply as a research group, this is also possible, but in that case, all authors should meet the above mentioned criteria.
The deadline for submitting your application is June 1st at 4:00 PM (EDT or GMT-4).
